According to reports from AL.com Harvey Updyke has died at the age of 71.
Updyke is the infamous Alabama fan who poisoned the trees at Toomer’s Corner in 2010. His son, Bear, reported the death to AL saying he died of natural causes in his home in Louisiana where he had been residing.
Updyke gained more fame after his call to the Paul Finebaum show where he claimed his actions of poisoning the trees. This came right after the Tigers won the Iron Bowl that season.
“The weekend after the Iron Bowl, I went to Auburn because I lived 30 miles away, and I poisoned the two Toomer’s trees,” Updyke said on the show. “I put Spike 80DF in ‘em. They’re not dead yet, but they definitely will die.”
This all came from a point of anger after an Auburn fan had put a Cam Newton jersey on the statue of Bear Bryant on the University of Alabama’s campus.
Harvey later did jail time with probation along with owing $80,000 for the damage he did.
